Learning Under Compound Risk vs . Learning Under Ambiguity - An Experiment . 1

چکیده
We design and conduct an economic experiment to investigate the learning process of the agents under compound risk and under ambiguity. We gather data for subjects choosing between lotteries involving risky and ambiguous urns. Decisions are made in conjunction with a sequence of random draws with replacement, allowing us to estimate the beliefs of the agents at different moments in time. For each of the urn types we estimate a behavioral updating model for which the standard Bayesian updating model is a particular case. Our findings suggest an important difference in updating behavior between risky and ambiguous environments. Specifically, after controlling for the initial prior, when updating under ambiguity subjects significantly overweight the new signal, while when updating under compound risk subjects are essentially Bayesian. متن کاملLimited attention and cue order consistency affect predictive learning: a test of similarity measures.
The authors empirically tested the similarity metrics underlying 2 predictive-learning theories: J. K. Kruschke's (1992) attention learning covering map and J. M. Pearce's (1987, 1994) configural models. In Experiment 1, participants concurrently learned 3 types of discriminations: simple (A- vs. B+), common cue (XC- vs. XD+), and compound (YE- vs. ZF+). Accuracy was ordered: simple > compound ...
متن کاملExperiments on Compound Risk in Relation to Simple Risk and to Ambiguity
W conduct experiments measuring individual behavior under compound risk, simple risk, and ambiguity. We focus on (1) treatment of compound risks relative to simple risks and (2) the relationship between compound risk attitudes and ambiguity attitudes. We find that compound risks are valued differently than corresponding reduced simple risks. These differences measure compound risk attitudes. Th...
متن کاملUncertainty about Informed Trading in Dealer Markets - An Experiment∗
We use an economic experiment to examine the impact of an uncertain level of asymmetric information on the behavior of security dealers. Specifically, we distinguish three types of uncertainty with respect to informed trading risk, compound risk, and ambiguity for both a monopoly and a duopoly market setting. We find that dealers’ bidding behavior is less aggressive under ambiguity and compound...
متن کاملThe Role of Textual vs. Compound Input Enhancement in Developing Grammar Ability
The present study investigated comparatively the impact of two types of input enhancement (i.e. textual vs. compound enhancement) on developing grammar ability in Iranian EFL setting. Sixty-five female secondary high school students were selected as a homogenous sample out of about a 100-member population based on Nelson language proficiency test. Then, their grammar ability was measured based ...
